Ford Expedition vs. 2023 Toyota Sequoia Post

Recently, Toyota leaked specs and images of the all-new, redesigned 2023 Toyota Sequoia in hopes that it will provide some competition against other full-size three-row SUVs, including the Ford Expedition. So, how exactly does the 2023 Toyota Sequoia stack up against the flagship full-size Ford Expedition?

Well, that’s exactly what the Ford pros at Essential Ford of Stuart wanted to take a look at today. With Toyota’s drop of the details and images, we thought it would be fun to see if the 2023 Sequoia could stand up to the industry-leading Ford Expedition in a little mini head-to-head competition.

Let’s take a look and see!

Performance & Towing

When it comes to towing and performance, the Expedition doesn’t hold any punches, with three different types of engines available, starting with the standard 380-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine. The two other optional versions of the 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine come with 400-horsepower and 440-horsepower. All this power equates to an impressive towing capacity of 9,300 pounds no matter what engine option you choose.

While the 2023 Sequoia may have a better engine with its iForce MAX hybrid system that puts out 437-horsepower, those extra horses don’t provide better towing capacity. The Sequoia maxes out at 9,000 pounds towing capacity.

Winner: Ford Expedition.

Off-Road Capability & Features

What’s the point in buying a durable SUV if you can’t enjoy it off-road once in a while, right? Well, the Expedition provides some innovative technology to assist with your adventures on the trail, including the Trail Turn Assist system and higher ground clearance in the Expedition Timberline.

The Sequoia does have a few more features than the Expedition here, with some more advanced technology features like a selectable locking rear differential, 2.5-inch Fox dampers, CRAWL Control, Multi-Terrain Select, a Multi-Terrain Monitor, and Downhill Assist Control. But to get all of that, you have to pay for expensive upgrades and packages.

Winner: Ford Expedition.

Safety Features

This particular category is where both of these three-row, full-size SUVs match up just about evenly. Both SUVs feature driver assistance and safety features such as lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring system, rear parking aid, brake assists, and stability control.

Winner: Tie.

So, it appears that’s 2-0-1 to Ford in this mini head-to-head comparison between the Ford Expedition and the 2023 Toyota Sequoia.
