2024 Ford Expedition vs 2023 GMC Yukon

There’s a significant price difference between the latest Expedition and Yukon, with GMC offering the higher price of the two. But is paying more for the Yukon worth it? With the attention to detail that Ford placed in their beloved Expedition (and considering everything you get with it), it’s hard to pass it up.

  • Starting at $55.525

2024 GMC Yukon
  • Starting at $61,695

Performance

For greater power and better mileage, the new Ford Expedition takes the cake. The standard 3.5L EcoBoost engine is already brag-worthy with 400 ponies to spare, but going with the upgraded 3.5L EcoBoost High-Output engine stretches that out to 440 horsepower, making for quite the formidable foe. Depending on your chosen model, you can achieve up to 17 in-city and 23 highway miles per gallon. The standard 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission promises silky-smooth driving wherever the road takes you, but additional features like Intelligent 2WD with Terrain Management System enhance your driving experience tenfold with adaptable handling on the spot. The available Continuous Controlled Damping with Suspension Road Preview also plays a helping hand in how well you traverse the road ahead.

There may be 3 available engine options for the new Yukon, but none of them are a match for the greatness of the Expedition. Ranging from 277-420 horsepower, the Yukon just doesn’t quite cut it in terms of the long haul. It’s also a bit lacking in fuel efficiency, with 15 in-city and 20 highway miles per gallon compared to the Expedition’s 17/23 rating. For driving technology, the Yukon only supports an active response 4WD system and air ride adaptive suspension. That’s similar to what’s in the Expedition, but the Expedition also has the build quality that Ford is known for on top of having high-tech adaptability.

2024 Ford Expedition

  • 3.5L EcoBoost High-Output with up to 440 HP

2024 GMC Yukon

  • 5.3L V8 with up to 355 HP
  • 6.2L V8 with up to 420 HP

Safety & Features

The new Expedition and Yukon are basically on an even playing field when it comes to safety and driver-assist features. They both have your usual collision-avoidance and lane-guidance systems, as well as multiple cameras and sensors surrounding their respective vehicles. Even next-gen hands-free highway driving technology is present in both SUVs (when you upgrade). In this case, the user experience is the only thing that can break this tie and many would argue that Ford provides more seamless accessibility.

Interior

If functionality is what you’re after, then the new Expedition has the perfect balance between comfort and practicality. The driver can find the perfect position with 8-way power adjustments for their seat, and the 8-inch digital instrument cluster makes it easier than ever to glance over your vital information, but not everything is designed for the driver alone. Your passengers in the front and back will appreciate the large 12-inch infotainment screen for easy visibility, and the panoramic vista roof to soothe those who may be on the claustrophobic side. The Expedition is also perfect for every adventure with a massive 121.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the front seats, 73.3 behind the second row, and 34.3 behind the third row.

The Yukon has its own desirable features like heated seating for the first and second rows, and leather and wood trim scattered throughout the cabin. However, it’s still lacking in comparison to the Expedition. For instance, the Yukon only carries up to 18 Bose speakers when the Expedition can hold up to 22, and the Yukon’s infotainment screen is also much smaller at 10.2 inches which can make it difficult for your rear passengers to comprehend.

Bottom Line

With greater power and a cabin experience that keeps every passenger in mind, the 2024 Ford Expedition is the clear winner this time around. The Yukon may seem big and bad on the outside, but it’s nowhere near as accommodating as Ford’s contender.
