2024 Ford F-150 vs 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

What makes Ford unique enough to have an entire dedicated fan base just for their famous F-150 alone? Ford found a balance between offering in-demand tech while sticking to their roots, and we couldn’t be any more grateful. On the other hand, The new Sierra 1500 has its own dedicated group of followers, even if the specs are just shy of what the F-150 has to offer.

Performance

Starting with a standard 2.7L V6 to a beefier 5.0L V8, there’s an F-150 for every lifestyle. But other than the engine types, the new F-150 also supports a 4x4 Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly system and an off-road-tuned suspension so you hardly have to think twice about treading uneven ground. The bed has a payload capacity of 2,445 pounds, or you put the hitch to work and tow up to 13,500 pounds with the aid of trailer-specific features such as:

  • Pro Trailer Hitch Assist
  • Pro Trailer Backup Assist
  • Trail 1-Pedal Drive
  • Trail Turn Assist

The new GMC Sierra 1500 may have a similar array of engine types, but many of them fall short of the capabilities of Ford’s selection for the F-150. Another thing we’ve noticed is that while the F-150 is clearly designed to handle moving loads and towing add-ons, the Sierra 1500 doesn’t have as much trailer-specific guidance. It can tow up to 13,300 on its diesel engine type, but all that’s left are the usual adaptive dampers and locking differentials.

  • 5.0L V8 engine - Up to 400 horsepower with 410 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 3.5L EcoBoost V6 - Up to 400 horsepower with 500 lb.-ft. of torque

  • 3.0L Duramax turbo-Diesel engine - Up to 305 horsepower with 495 lb.-ft. of torque

Safety & Features

Ford gladly accommodates the modern driver and their need for the latest safety and driver-assist features. That’s why the 2024 Ford F-150 is equipped with Ford Co-Pilot 2.0 which is an improved iteration of the brand’s standard package. But what makes the F-150 different from other pickups that offer similar features is the Ford promise of being built tough. Technology is great, but it only gets you so far in the face of danger. The F-150’s high-strength steel frame and use of military-grade aluminum-alloy components grant you more peace of mind which is priceless.

GMC aimed for high-tech in the safety department regarding the new Sierra 1500, with the standard GMC Pro Safety package and up to 14 different camera angles. Being aware of your surroundings is crucial, don’t get us wrong, but no amount of safety features is going to help you should you get into an unfortunate accident. This all-in focus on driver-assist tech in most cars nowadays is precisely why we admire Ford’s dedication to nurturing physical strength when the unexpected happens.

Interior

Even when you’re in full work mode, it’s still nice to have certain accommodations that simply make your job easier. Bucket seats help secure you in place when there’s a bumpy ride in your path, and the available head-up display tells you everything you want to know right in front of you where you want to stay focused. Other cool gadgets that can assist you on your drives are the user-friendly 12-inch driver information display and infotainment touchscreen with 5G hotspot support to stay in touch, much of which is controllable through enhanced voice recognition. Imagine dominating every aspect of your day on the road in a safe and controlled environment, all without lifting a finger!

Primarily a display of showmanship, the new Sierra 1500 graces your cabin experience with stylistic touches over functionality. Perforated leather appointments and open-pore wood trim may look nice, but that won’t do anything to boost your productivity. Available 16-way power adjustments may feel like a welcome treat, but you’re more likely to get the most use out of an intuitive HUD and enhanced voice recognition feature in the F-150 that we wouldn’t want to give up for extra chair positions.

Bottom Line

It’s no wonder that the Ford F-150 is world-famous, and the 2024 model is by far one of the best we’ve seen. Offering a reassuring balance of modern features with everything else that we love about this popular pickup is why we’ll choose it over the new Sierra 1500 in a heartbeat.
