2023 Ford Bronco vs 2023 Toyota 4Runner

Ever since its debut in the mid-’60s, the Ford Bronco has been a big favorite all across the nation. It was a stylish car that you could take anywhere, and those traits are still apparent in the latest version decades later. Now, you can even customize your Bronco in so many ways to make it feel personal to you. And while many people still go with the 4Runner, they’re missing out on more power and the ability to stand out from the crowd.

Performance

As one of the many, many ways to customize your 2023 Bronco, you have 3 distinct engine types to choose from. The standard is a 2.3L EcoBoost I-4, but you can also upgrade to the available 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine for 330 horsepower. But it doesn’t end there. You can upgrade all the way up to the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine for a whopping 418 horsepower that will greatly help you with your off-roading adventures. There are 7-speed manual and 10-speed automatic versions available, 4 different HOSS packages to choose from for improving your ride, and 12 selectable drive modes for highly adaptable driving. Back to off-roading capability, you can also experience a 4x4 powertrain and Train Management System in the new Bronco for effortless power, and the Trail 1-Pedal Drive makes it even easier to conquer your obstacles.

If you were expecting more out of the new 4Runner, you’ll be disappointed to know that it can only go up to 270 horsepower on its 4.0L V6 engine. It’s also limited on available off-roading features by only offering Crawl Control, an Electronic Locking Rear Differential, and Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. Not to mention, the 4Runner only has 4 drive modes compared to the Bronco’s 12. It’s also difficult to fully enjoy your off-road trips when you have to cut the fun short to go get more gas since the 4Runner has a low fuel rating of 16 in-city and 19 highway miles per gallon. Meanwhile, the new Bronco has an MPG rating of 20/21.

Safety Features

Ford found the sweet spot in terms of standard safety features when putting together their Ford Co-Pilot360 package. In the new Bronco, you’ll have access to a 360-Degree Camera with Off-Road Views, Hill Descent Control, Rear View Camera with Backup Assist, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, and Auto High-Beam Headlamps. With these carefully selected essentials, you can drive with more peace of mind knowing that you have adequate guidance and protection. Toyota Safety Sense only comes with 4 features instead of five, including a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beams.

Interior

The interior design is where you can really get creative with the 2023 Bronco. First, you can choose between the two-door and four-door models, but that’s not even the most fun part. There are 13 different cabin designs available, each varying in color schemes and types of materials. Some of these designs even have unique patterns for the seats. While looks are important, the Bronco is still practical for off-road use. A perfect example of this is in the sealed switches that are water and weather resistant which makes it much easier to clean even after the messiest adventures. Plus, the MOLLE storage system behind the front seats can hold all of your gear with a net basket and grid system full of holes to clip your accessories onto. The available B&O Sound System can be accessed on the available 12-inch infotainment screen for a great musical experience on the road.

While the Bronco is aesthetically pleasing and can be personalized to your tastes, opting for a higher TRD Pro trim on the 4Runner will reward you with a tacky logo arrangement that feels almost like a blatant advertisement. The TRD letters are embroidered on the headrests which do nothing for the driver’s own interest. Even the 8-inch infotainment screen is surrounded by a clunky frame and an overload of buttons. There’s a moonroof, but it’s too small to effectively improve the atmosphere of the cabin.

Bottom Line

The new 2023 Ford Bronco is truly a vehicle for everyone with a wide range of options to choose from whether it be the engine type or interior design. Plus, it has everything you need for a fun off-roading trip anywhere your heart desires. Meanwhile, the new 4Runner is a bit short on power and the ability to make your ride feel like it’s truly yours.
