2024 Ford Mustang vs 2024 Toyota GR Supra

So what’s new in the world of performance cars? If we’re talking raw power, then the new 2024 Mustang definitely comes out on top with its exclusive Coyote engine and modified TREMEC transmission system. The interior is also fairly attractive, especially in the sought-after Dark Horse model. Meanwhile, the 2024 GR Supra is just another average sports car that happens to be on the current market.

Performance

Good news for Mustang lovers! With the new 2024 model, you can get a combination of 2 distinct engines and 3 impressive transmission systems. Anyone would appreciate the 2.3L EcoBoost engine backed by 315 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque, but that’s not even the star of the show. What sports car enthusiasts are clamoring to get a hold of is the Gen-4 5.0L Coyote V8 engine that can pump out a whopping 500 horsepower and 418 lb.-ft. of torque. If you’re already on the edge of your seat, we can’t wait to show you your transmission options:
  • Standard 10-speed SelectShift automatic
  • Available 6-speed manual
  • Modified TREMEC TR 3160 6-speed manual

What’s so special about the TREMEC transmission system? It’s perfectly capable of rev-matching and no-lift shifting so you can change gears without even letting up on the gas. Additional driving enhancements include the Gen 3 MagneRide Damping System, integral link, independent rear suspension, and electric power-assisted steering.

Moving on over to the new Toyota GR Supra, things aren’t looking so hot for the powertrain specs. The standard engine is a 2.0L 4-cylinder at 255 horsepower which is already pretty underwhelming, but the upgraded option isn’t much better. The available 3.0L 6-cylinder engine is only capable of 382 horsepower which is significantly less than the Mustang’s esteemed Coyote engine with 500 ponies. The transmission options for the GR Supra are also fairly basic: a 6-speed iMT and an 8-speed AT.

Safety & Features

When it comes to safety and driver-assist features, the new Mustang and GR Supra are practically the same. They both offer your standard lane assist, pre-collision, and emergency braking systems which are great to have for peace of mind.

Interior

Have you ever imagined that a popular gaming engine would make it into a sports car? Leave it to Ford to accomplish the impossible. The amazing 3D graphics display for the Mustang’s 12.4-inch digital cluster and 13.2-inch center screen is powered by none other than the impressive Unreal engine software! The Mustang’s cabin also features RECARO seats in the Dark Horse model, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and an available 12-speaker B&O sound system. At this point, what else could possibly surprise you about the new Mustang?

Glancing back at the GR Supra, we are once again underwhelmed at what this critically acclaimed sports car has to offer. For being such a popular name, this particular Supra barely makes way for an 8.8-inch instrument cluster with a basic display. Heated seats and a dual-zone climate control system are nice for getting cozy, but it’s missing the spark that makes a sports car truly memorable.

Bottom Line

With all of the incredible things that we mentioned about the new Mustang, it’s almost hard to believe that the starting price is about $15k lower than the GR Supra. The 2024 Ford Mustang starts at around $30,920 while the 2024 Toyota GR Supra starts at around $45,540. Considering how the Mustang has a greater spirit in terms of performance and style, we have to hand it the trophy this time around.
