2023 Ford F-150 vs 2023 Chevrolet Silverado

One of the things that we like about the new 2023 F-150 is the fact that it’s adaptable to accommodate any type of pickup truck enthusiast. Whether you’re big on DIY projects, like to go on frequent camping trips, or simply use your truck for work, Ford has it in the bag. The Silverado is still great at what it does, which isn’t surprising since there must be a good reason why this has been a heated rivalry for so long, but we have to admit that Chevy doesn’t quite go above and beyond like Ford does.

Performance

Your pickup should feel like your pickup, and that’s why Ford offers a wide range of engine options to help you find the perfect setup for your wants and needs. The standard engine offers 290 horsepower, but you can achieve 400 in the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 or 450 in either the 3.5L twin-turbo or PowerBoost hybrid engines. But if you want to go big, the High-Output 5.2L Supercharged V8 in the F-150 Raptor R is capable of reaching up to 700 horsepower! Considering that, it’s really no surprise that the F-150 has up to 14,000 pounds of towing capacity. The 10-speed automatic transmission is also great for providing you with a smooth ride as you get all those horses running.

There are also a good handful of engine styles to choose from in the Silverado, but none of them feel so distinct when you place them side by side. While the F-150 ranges from 290-700 horsepower, the Silverado ranges from 305-420 which isn’t a lot when you realize that’s between 4 different engines. The Silverado also comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission, but the towing capacity ends at 13,300 pounds.

F-150 Engines
  • Standard engine at 290 HP
  • 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine at 400 HP
  • 3.5L Twin-Turbo engine at 450 HP
  • High-Output 5.2L Supercharged V8 engine at 700 HP

Silverado Engines
  • Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel engine at 305 HP
  • 2.7L Turbo engine at 310 HP
  • 5.3L ECOTEC3 V8 engine at 355 HP
  • 6.2L ECOTEC3 V8 engine at 420 HP

Safety & Features

The new F-150 comes with Ford Co-PILOT360 which includes 6 proactive safety and driver-assist features, but that’s not the only way that Ford is looking out for you. This durable pickup is made with high-strength steel in the fully-boxed frame complete with large cross sections along with military-grade aluminum alloy to help protect you should you get into a bad scrape. Other than being built tough, another unique feature that stood out to us is the available LED projector headlamps with Dynamic Bending. This neat feature can light up the road for you while making automatic adjustments around curves to improve your vision by giving you a wider angle.

Chevy Safety Assist is to be expected in the new Silverado since it contains all your standard safety features, but how else does this pickup protect you? Unlike the F-15, the Silverado only consists of steel skid plates and bumpers. There’s a reason why Ford is the one with the “Built Tough” slogan, after all. The new Silverado supports available Super Cruise Driver Assistance Technology which includes additional features designed to help you out, but if you ever find yourself in an unfortunate accident, you’ll probably encounter minimal damages in the F-150.

Interior

The cool thing about the F-150’s cabin setup is that it is able to accommodate your needs in the most creative ways. For instance, you can use the center console as a desk space thanks to the stowable shifter that allows room for a flat surface to place your laptop while keeping it stable. There are 6 available 12V outlets to power your devices, and you can store extra items in the out-of-the-way lockable storage under the rear seats. And while you’re working inside your F-150, you can let in some air through the twin-panel moonroof.

The new Silverado wasn’t really made to handle anything other than driving when it comes to the cabin design. There are wood accents, leather trims, and a power sunroof so we’ll give it points for offering an inviting atmosphere, but it’s not as adaptable for any other use. It’s also not able to support as many powered devices since it only has two 12V outlets compared to the 6 that you can find in the F-150.

Bottom Line

In the end, Chevy fans will still swear by the Silverado and Ford fans will continue to stick to the F-150. But when it comes down to the hard facts, the new 2023 F-150 has greater horsepower, a stronger build, and a more accommodating cabin. The Silverado is also a capable truck, but it feels a little too simplistic in comparison.
