2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Launch, Production, and Shipping Post

Ford’s entry into the electric pickup market, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, began production at the end of April, four months after the company stopped taking reservations for the vehicle. While it’s uncertain just how many Lightnings will reach customers this year, the company expects to make 150,000 trucks per year starting in 2023. Read on to learn more about the details surrounding the launch of the all-new 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning.

Ford’s all-new electric pickup has generated plenty of buzz since it was first announced, with Ford capping reservations at 200,000. They’ve stopped taking orders for the 2022 model year, and it’s easy to see why the Lightning is so popular. With impressive acceleration (0-60 MPH in 4.5 seconds), strong torque (775lb/ft) and a 320-mile range, there’s plenty of power in this electric vehicle. There are also a few less-common perks, including a huge “frunk” (front trunk), mobile-generator capabilities, and more unique features.

Another distinctive quality of the F-150 Lightning is the price. At $39,947 for the Lightning base Pro model, it’s the most affordable electric pickup available. That price also means the Lightning is within reach of many conventional F-150 buyers. Compare that to the $67,500 price tag for Rivian’s R1T or the Chevy Silverado EV (set to roll out in 2024) starting at $39,900, and you can see why the F-150 Lightning is so attractive to drivers looking to enter the EV market without breaking their budget.

The first Ford Lightnings are already rolling off assembly lines and heading to customers right now. Built at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in the historic Rouge Complex, the Lightning is set to play a key role in Ford’s transition to electric vehicles. The company is set to deliver more than 2 million electric vehicles each year by 2026, which is currently one-third of the company’s total production. Ford expects electric vehicles to account for half of their production by the year 2030, with the Lightning and the Mustang Mach-E SUV leading the way.

The Lightning is the only full-size electric pickup on the market since Rivian’s R1T lies somewhere between a compact Toyota Tacoma and a full-size truck like the F-150. The Lighting will have the market to itself for at least a year, as Tesla’s Cybertruck and competitors from GM and Ram aren’t expected for delivery before 2023. If you’re looking to get behind the wheel of an all-electric pickup right now, the Lightning is the best choice.

The all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning is rolling off factory floors and heading to dealerships and customers across the country. Want to learn more about this incredible vehicle, or to see it in person? Contact the Ford experts at Essential Ford of Stuart today at (727) 287-0955!
