2022 Ford Bronco Raptor Walk-Around

Ford fans know that the term “Raptor” signifies high-performance. Getting its name from the velociraptor and birds of prey, the Raptor line is designed to be a street-legal counterpart to off-road racing trucks and SUVs. The all-new 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is the latest entry to the Raptor line. Ford retooled its Bronco off-roader as an SUV designed to be an epic desert racing truck, featuring so many upgrades it’s hard to know where to begin. Here’s what you need to know about this incredible desert racer.

Epic Power

The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is shaping up to be a beast, due in large part to the engine under the hood. In May, Ford announced the Bronco Raptor is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that pumps out an incredible 418 hp and 415 lb-feet of torque. This marks a big increase from the previously announced 400 hp target.

Ford’s engine also features improved intercooling and air-induction systems that can withstand hot desert heat. There’s also a true dual-exhaust system that improves the V-6 exhaust note, along with four selectable exhaust modes. That means you can run it to allow for extra quiet or extra loud, depending on your preference and how much fun you’d like to have. All in all, the extra horsepower makes the Bronco Raptor an even more proficient off-roader that’s perfect for crawling rocks or riding the dunes.

Off-Road Features

In designing the Bronco Raptor, Ford engineers ripped apart the Bronco and put it back together with a massively updated frame that features a B-pillar crossbar and C-pillar reinforcement, allowing for a controlled ride while you’re off-roading. There are also new competition-level axles that increase the track width to 73.6-inches, along with larger front and rear driveshafts to handle the extra power from the Raptor’s hefty engine.

Another way the Raptor shines as an off-roader is that 37-inch tires come standard. With larger tires, the Raptor has a minimum ground clearance of a whopping 13.1-inches, a significant 4.8 inches more than the standard four-door Bronco. These standard beadlock-capable tires are the largest available on any production SUV in the U.S., truly setting the Bronco Raptor apart from other SUVs in its class.

A Safe Ride

While off-roading is about letting loose and exploring the limits of your ride, you want to be able to do it safely. That’s why Ford has included several useful Co-Pilot360 safety technologies standard with every 2022 Bronco Raptor. Features include:

  • Automatic high beams
  • Blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking

Optional extras include adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist. Though the Bronco is technically a convertible and not required by regulation to have side airbags, they come standard in the Bronco for your complete peace of mind.
