While rumors swirled around the Raptor’s engine, Ford’s finally confirmed that the all-new Raptor R will be powered by their legendary Predator V-8 engine. This is the same engine you’ll find under the Shelby GT500’s hood, made even better. This 5.2-liter engine achieves 700 hp and 640 lb.-ft of torque. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, it doesn’t get much more powerful than this.
With all this power, the Raptor R also delivers in terms of sound. The Raptor roars, and with its redesigned exhaust, it offers a sound that rivals Dodge’s Hellcat-powered Ram TR. If your adrenaline doesn’t surge every time, you hit the gas in your Raptor R, you need to check your pulse.
Massive Tires
With big power comes big tires. The Raptor R has bigger tires than the TRX, featuring massive 37-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires. While these tires are the same ones that are available on the V-6 Raptor, the R version gets specially tuned dampers and stiffer front springs that allow it to support the heavier V-8.
Unmistakable Aesthetics
One look at the Raptor R and you know you’re in the presence of a supercharged beast. The Raptor R is simply intimidating, even when it’s just standing idle. It showcases a powerful stance and strong contours—it’s power you can see. Some of the visual cues that differentiate the R from the V-6 version are the taller power dome on the hood, as well as several small badges on the grille, power dome, and tailgate. There’s also plenty of graphics that feature the “Raptor” lettering, with the “R” set off in orange.
Interior Details
While the Raptor R is like most other F-150 models in terms of the interior, there are some distinct details to appreciate. You’ll notice an exclusive pattern on all carbon-fiber accents. You also get comfortable and supportive Recaro front seats standard in every Raptor R.
