When you think of an off-road capable SUV, you think of so many automakers that try to give you some off-road features on SUVs that just can’t handle the task. But Ford is changing the entire SUV landscape with the all-new 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline—the off-road SUV you’ve always wanted that’s more Raptor SUV than wannabe off-road beast.

Today, we wanted to highlight some awesome features and technology that make this beast of the dirt roads more trail monster than a family SUV but packs all the same features and luxuries your family will love.
So, what makes this full-size SUV so off-road worthy and unique? Let’s take a look.
Off-Road Awesomeness
Ford has created an impressively capable off-road SUV with the all-new Timberline trim for the Expedition. The Expedition shares much of its makeup with the Ford F-150, which means you get a fully boxed high-strength steel frame that comes with Raptor’s steel underbody skid plates—and even the unique front skid plate you once thought was only reserved for the Raptor.
Ford’s other off-road features included in the Timberline are enhanced off-road springs, sway bars, and even off-road-tuned steering. Complete with beefy 265/70R18 Goodyear Wrangler all-terrains that come out to 33″ tall and are mounted on black aluminum 18-inch wheels.
You’ll also love the standard electronic locking rear differential along with seven selectable drive modes. It’s also the first SUV outside the Bronco family to come with Ford’s high-tech Trail Turn Assist functionality. Because you never know when you need to utilize your Expedition’s brake-traction control system to pivot around tight spaces on low-friction surfaces!
What About Power?
Glad you asked. The all-new Expedition Timberline comes with Ford’s high-output 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine that produces 440-horsepower. With an impressive roughly 9,000 pounds of towing capacity, you can take the ATVs along on your adventures for those tighter, wetter trails.
