The F-150 is America’s best-selling truck for a reason. Ford’s 2021 full-size truck not only boasts a lower price, but it tows more, hauls more, has more engine choices, and has more cab configurations as well as longer and more truck bed options.

Price & Trims

The 2021 F-150 is offered in seven trim levels with numerous configurations. The all-new PowerBoost full-hybrid powertrain is available on every trim level. The F-150 starts at $30,645 with its XL and the Limited tops out at $69,625. The 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 is available in eight trims and comes with a higher price tag: the Tradesman comes in at $33,940 on the low end and the TRX at $71,790 on the high end.

Engines & Powertrain

Choose from the F-150’s seven engine options: the 3.3-liter Ti-VCT V6, 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8, 3.5-liter EcoBoost®V6, 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6, the H.O. twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and the new 3.5-liter PowerBoost™ Full Hybrid V6. All engines come with a ten-speed automatic transmission. The Ram 1500 has a V6 and V8 gas motor with an eight-speed automatic transmission; both include a 48-volt hybrid system, however, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 can exclude it. The EcoDiesel 3.0-liter V6 engine delivers 480 lb-ft of torque.

Exterior

Besting the Ram 1500, the new F-150 has 15 exterior paint options compared to Dodge’s 10. The dimensions of the F-150 measure 209-251″ L x 80-86″ W x 75-79″ H with three truck bed sizes. The Ram 1500 measures 229-233″ L x 82″ W x 78″ H, however, only comes with two bed sizes, less than the F-150 with shorter bed lengths overall. Ford’s truck can be configured in Regular, SuperCab, or SuperCrew while Dodge’s comes with either a Quad Cab or Crew Cab.

Interior

The new F-150 comes with an eight-inch touch screen (optional 12-inch), SYNC® 4 infotainment system, fresh digital instrument cluster, fold-flat front seats, and lockable storage compartments. The Dodge Ram comes with similar features, like an 8.4-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and mobile hotspot. The 2021 F-150’s interior gives the Ram 1500 interior a run for its money.

Payload & Towing Capacity

Towing up to 13,200 pounds, the 2021 Ford F-150 tops the 2021 Dodge Ram 1500, which only tows up to 12,750 pounds. Additionally, the F-150 can haul up to 3,270 pounds compared to the Ram 1500’s 2,320 pounds.

Safety Features

The new F-150 comes standard with automated emergency braking and pedestrian detection. Additionally, you can add the Ford CoPilot360™ – a safety suite with lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and more. The new Ram 1500 also offers plenty of safety features, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, high-beam headlights, and adaptive cruise control. Overall, both trucks are safe.
