Essential Ford – Sneak Peek 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Truck Post

The all-new F-150 Lightning shares much of the regular F-150’s body and cabin, but trades the gas-powered V6 and V8 engine options for a pair of electric motors and one of two different battery packs. Its selectable Drive Modes offer optimal performance based on driving conditions, and each mode customizes the digital productivity screened for a unique experience. The Lighting also offers the largest front trunk of any all-electric pickup. MSRP starts at $39,974 with the Pro series alongside the XLT, Lariat, and Platinum with features made just for you.

Performance Matters

Ready for off-road adventures, all F-150 Lightning models come standard with two electric motors and all-wheel drive. Plus, metal skid plates, underbody protection, and an advanced lithium-ion battery pack that’s protected by a unique exostructure act as a shield. With the extended-range battery, the truck hits 563 hp with peak torque at an impressive 775 lb-ft as well as maximum available towing of 10,000 lbs. and targeted 2,000 lbs. of maximum payload. With the extended range battery, the truck can accelerate faster than any F-150 yet, targeting 0-60 mph in the mid-four second range. The standard-range battery offers a targeted EPA-estimated range of 230 miles. The available extended-range battery offers a targeted EPA-estimated range of 300 miles. The F-150 Lightning can charge from 15 to 80 percent of battery capacity in 44 minutes.

Interior Comfort and Connectivity

Like the truck’s exterior, the F-150 Lightning’s cabin is similar to the gas-powered F-150 with a few key differences. The 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Ford’s Sync 4 software is standard while the Lariat and Platinum models come with a 15-inch display. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-dash navigation, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are all standard. Bang & Olufsen delivers two different optional premium stereo systems – the Lariat with eight speakers and the Platinum with 18 speakers. The Lightning will be offered as a crew-cab with a 5.5-foot bed, but Ford could offer the two-door or SuperCab (rear half-door) configurations and longer bed options.

Advanced Towing, Hauling, and Safety Tech

The available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist helps you to hook up your trailer more easily by automatically controlling the steering wheel, throttle, and braking to align the hitch ball and trailer coupler with the touch of a button. The available onboard scales measure payload weight and displays it in the truck. Also available is the Smart Hitch, designed to help you easily load trailers and practice safe towing. This feature measures the tongue weight of a trailer being connected to help distribute trailer weight correctly. The available Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature makes it easy to back up a trailer by simply turning a nob in the direction you want the trailer to go. Available Trailer Reverse Guidance gives extra assistance when you’re backing up a trailer, enhancing visibility via cameras in the side view mirrors and visual guides in the center dash screen. A suite of driver-assistance features will be standard, with Ford’s new BlueCruise semi-autonomous driving mode offered as an option. Key safety features include standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist as well as available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode.

Ford Intelligent Backup Power

When nature strikes, be prepared! Enabled by the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, your truck becomes a backup power source to your home during a power outage. While your F-150 is charging using power from the grid, you can set your Ford Intelligent Backup Power to automatically or manually kick in and power your home just like a generator. With the ability to offboard up to 9.6 kW of peak energy, the F-150 Lightning can provide full home power for up to three days – or as long as 10 days if power is rationed.

Work Made Easy

The available interior work surface allows you to bring your office on the road. Plus, the 4G LTE wireless hotspot keeps you connected. With four 120V outlets in the Mega Power Frunk, the F-150 Lightning provides 2.4 kW of Pro Power Onboard exportable power up front. Combined with the outlets in the cab and bed, there’s an available 9.6 kW of exportable power. The available tailgate worksurface is designed with durable composite construction materials, clamp pocket, tailgate tie-downs, and many other practical details to simplify your work. It’s also grained to avoid slippage and is integrated with functional tools like rulers, a mobile device holder, cup holder, and small item storage. The F-150 Lightning can even light up the entire area around itself, 360 degrees including the inside of the bed, with enough light to let you keep working or playing in the dark. Plus, you can isolate different zones as needed and you can control all of it through the FordPass™ app.
