Review Roundup 2022 Ford Maverick Post

While the nameplate was used on a less-than-stellar compact car in the 1970s, Ford set out to revive the Maverick name for its all-new small pickup truck. And when it comes to trucks built to tackle any job, Ford doesn’t disappoint with the 2022 Maverick. Instead of sharing parts and mechanicals with the Ranger, the Maverick sits on the same chassis as the all-new Bronco Sport compact crossover.

As the all-new Maverick starts to arrive in driveways around Stuart, your friends at Essential Ford of Stuart wanted to take some to share what some of the best truck reviewers in the country have to say about the 2022 Ford Maverick.

Especially since many reviewers had a chance to spend some time behind the wheel of this brand-new compact pickup, too! Let’s see what they had to say after their close encounter with the 2022 Ford Maverick.

Craig Cole of CNET’s Roadshow says that this back-to-basics truck has incredible value for its class.

“The 2022 Ford Maverick blew me away like lawn furniture in a hurricane. Including destination fees, this back-to-basics compact truck starts at less than $22,000, making it an unbelievable value. But the Maverick’s greatness isn’t exclusively a function of that low starting price: It’s an all-around excellent vehicle and a groundbreaking product.”

When it comes to what makes The Maverick stand out from the other Ford Truck models, Ryan ZumMallen of Edmunds points out that many buyers will be pretty surprised by what they find.

“The Ford Maverick may be small, but it’s no city runabout. From the way it drives to its few-frills interior, the Maverick feels like a truck first and foremost,” ZumMallen says. “This is a compact pickup for towing and hauling with confidence – just at a smaller size and lower price point than other trucks on the market. Its unibody construction differs from the Ranger’s and F-150’s classic body-on-frame construction, but the Ford Maverick pickup still delivers some impressive tow ratings. It also has a more comfortable ride than its larger siblings. This makes the Maverick a solid choice for buyers who want the versatility of a pickup but don’t need an old-school truck’s absurdly high capabilities (and potentially high pricing).”

MotorTrend’s Duncan Brady had plenty to talk about in his review about the handling and driving performance.

“Buyers looking for great fuel economy will gravitate toward the base hybrid powertrain, which provides more than enough power to motivate this small truck. In our First Drive, we found the suspension absorbs small bumps in the road well, although larger road imperfections proved more of a challenge. AWD Mavericks have an independent rear suspension which improves ride quality. The upgraded turbo model has its merits,” says Brady. “The engine and transmission work well together, we found out in our First Test, and it’s the better option for towing and off-roading. It also tested favorably against its main competitor, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz, in our comparison test.”

Even the interior is getting rave reviews from Craig Cole of CNET’s Roadshow!

“The Maverick’s cabin is just as innovative. The door panels are designed to accommodate 1-liter bottles in an upright position, so they’re not rolling around everywhere. There are plenty of cubbies and the rear-seat cushion lifts, revealing additional storage bins or allowing you to carry larger cargo. What’s absent, however, are frills. Don’t expect Nappa leather, open-pore wood furnishings or laser-etched speaker grilles. Still, despite its lack of embellishments, the Maverick manages to feel richer than its price tag.”

These are just a sampling of the many great reviews for the all-new 2022 Ford Maverick.
