Ford Bronco Raptor vs. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Post

In the battle of the off-roaders, does the Ford Bronco Raptor or Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 reign supreme? The Raptor is the clear winner, based on a full range of criteria from looks to off-road performance. Here’s how these two dune-bashing SUVs stack up to each other.

Exterior Styling

Just one look at the Ford Bronco Raptor, and you know you’re looking at a true off-roader. The Raptor is the brawnier of the two, featuring brand-specific body panels and crazy-wide fender flares. The Wrangler, by contrast, looks much more restrained, even though it features bronze accents, tow hooks, Rubicon badges, and more.

Compared to the Rubicon 392, the Raptor simply has more presence, and you can see it in the numbers. The Raptor’s 85.7-inch width and 77.8-inch height make the Rubicon 392 look somewhat squatty. While the Rubicon 392 has a slightly longer wheelbase, it just doesn’t look as tough and ready for the off-road as the Raptor.

Interior Updates

Both SUVs are top-spec models, so you can expect upgraded interiors in both. You have two choices when it comes to the interior trimmings in the Raptor. You can get it with marine-grade upholstery and rubber floor mats or upgrade to the Platinum trim with gorgeous leather/Alcantara seats and carpeting. Orange-colored accents highlight the unique interior of the Raptor, from the steering wheel to the armrest, air vents, seatbelt, and more.

The Rubicon 392’s cabin reflects the same bronze theme as you see on the exterior. You’ll spot bronze accents on the gear, shift lever, seats, and more. Apart from the embroidered “Rubicon 392” on the seats, there’s not a whole lot to distinguish this cabin from other Wranglers. While the Rubicon 392’s interior is slightly fancier than other models, the Raptor is the clear winner in terms of luxury and eye-catching styling.

Off-Road Capabilities

Both Ford and Jeep intended for these vehicles to actually go off-roading, but the Bronco Raptor is the superior choice in terms of off-road capability. It features a revolutionary hydraulic disconnecting sway bar that gives it the edge in off-road situations. Skid plates under the Raptor are much more robust than those under the Rubicon 392. While the Rubicon 392 delivers Jeep’s standard off-roading capabilities, the Raptor takes them a step further, for more capable performance on rock, sand, mud, and more.

Price

Check the sticker price of the all-new Bronco Raptor and the Rubicon 392—you’re in for a shock. The Wrangler Rubicon 392 is priced over $10,000 more than the Raptor. When you consider you get a better ride that translates to both on-road and off-road conditions, along with a better-designed exterior and interior, the Raptor is clearly the superior choice, and it’s also the more affordable one.
