2022 Ford Explorer ST – What We Know So Far Post

For the 2022 model year, Ford is expanding its Explorer ST roster with two new options. The new Explorer ST will be offered with a rear-wheel drive model in addition to the new Explorer ST-Line series. Ford’s midsize SUV segment is in its sixth generation and accounts for nearly one in five 2021 Explorer sales. And now this extended lineup gives buyers even more options.

Rear Wheel Drive Only Option

Drivers will now be able to choose on-road performance style with the 2022 Explorer ST’s standard rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. This SUV features a 3.0-liter EcoBoost® engine that produces 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque with a 10-speed automatic transmission. While four-wheel drive capability is great if you need it, Ford acknowledges you shouldn’t have to pay for it if you don’t use it. The customers requested changes to the Explorer lineup and Ford delivered.

ST-Line Expands to Explorer

The Explorer ST-Line, which falls between the XLT and the Limited, has numerous appearance and technology upgrades. The ST-Line is built on a rear-wheel drive platform with four-wheel drive capability. Plus, it’s powered by the most popular Explorer powertrain, a 300-hp, 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine and 10-speed automatic transmission. The Explorer ST-Line comes with a starting price tag that’s $7,570 less than the Explorer ST.

Explorer ST-Line Exterior

On the outside, the Explorer ST-Line mirrors the fully-equipped Explorer ST. You’ll find 20-in machined aluminum wheels, ST-inspired features like a blacked-out grille, fascia-integrated dual exhaust tips, gloss-black “EXPLORER” hood badging, and a unique black-out treatment for headlamps and taillamps.

Explorer ST-Line Interior

The interior boasts luxe design and technology with Ebony Black ActiveX™-trimmed seats with Miko inserts, heated first-row seats and sport-style steering wheel, and red accent stitching throughout. Available highlights include the 12-speaker B&O® sound system, wireless charging pad, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and 360-degree camera. Two new exterior colors are Stone Blue and Burgundy Velvet. Plus, the Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ offers Evasive Steering Assist, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and voice-activated navigation.

Additional Customer-Driven Upgrades

The Explorer King Ranch® and Explorer Platinum now offer a standard 400-hp powertrain. Customers have a choice of a second-row bench seat or captain’s chairs at no additional charge as well as a second-row bench seat option on Timberline models. The Standard Technology Package on King Ranch and Platinum models include a 10.1-in touchscreen, multi-contour seats, and 14-speaker B&O sound system. New seat trim on the XLT Sport Appearance Package features Ebony seat bolsters with Light Slate inserts.
