2021 Ford Explorer Safety Features & Rating Post

The 2021 Explorer is chock-full of high-tech safety features to help take you where you need to go. With a lineup of available driver-assistive elements designed to enhance your driving experience, the Explorer provides confidence, comfort and capability for your next adventure.

Key Safety Features

On your Explorer, you’ll find driver and passenger air bags as well as front head, rear head and front side air bags as well as 4-wheel ABS, 4-wheel disc brakes, brake assist, electronic stability control, daytime running lights, child safety locks, traction control, blind spot monitor, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and cross-traffic alert. The available Active Park Assist 2.0 makes it easy to park in tight parallel or perpendicular spots. With the push of a button, it will detect an appropriate parking spot and let you know when to stop and put the car in neutral. Once you’re there, all you have to do is hold the Active Park Assist button for the duration of the park and the system does the rest. This feature also offers park-out assist with side-sensing capability so you can confidently navigate out of a spot when someone’s parked too close to you.

Connected Tech

The Ford Co-Pilot360™ comes standard with BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System), rear view camera, lane-keeping system, automatic emergency braking and auto high-beam headlamps.

Ford+Alexa allows you to connect your phone to the SYNC 3 AppLink to access voice navigation, traffic information, Amazon Prime and more. You can even control your supported smart-home devices. Plus, Ford and Waze adds a crowd-sourced navigation and traffic app to get the best routes and receive real-time info on accidents, road hazards, traffic jams and more – all hands free so you can keep your eyes on the road.

Top Safety Ratings

The 2021 Ford Explorer is named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The nonprofit organization gave its top crashworthiness “Good” rating to small overlap front: driver-side and passenger-side, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints & seats. In the IIHS’s crash avoidance and mitigation, the 2021 Ford Explorer was given its top “Superior” rating on front crash prevention: vehicle-to-vehicle on both the standard and optional systems as well as the front crash prevention: vehicle-to-pedestrian on the standard system. It was given the “Advanced” rating on the front crash prevention: vehicle-to-pedestrian on the optional system, and the “Acceptable” rating on headlights and LATCH’s ease of use for child seat anchors. The NHSTA gives the 2021 Explorer its top rating of 5 stars for its overall rating, including 5 stars for both frontal and side crash results and 4 stars for rollovers.
