Performance

Ford has always been the one to rely on for power and durability, and the Expedition Platinum model is a prime example of how far the brand is willing to go to deliver a worry-free drive wherever you go. The 3.5L EcoBoost V6 Platinum Series brings you up to 400 horsepower on 480 lb-ft of torque which is already incredible for an SUV, but you can test the limits by going with the upgraded engine for the Platinum with 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. With this amount of power, you can tackle any job or adventure with ease! The 10-speed automatic transmission system works tirelessly to make your drives smooth and enjoyable.

The new Infiniti QX80 is equipped with a powertrain that’s very similar to its competitor, with the main difference being Ford’s dedication to providing a physically reliable SUV with Infiniti leaning too heavily into the technological aspect. We love technology and realize that it will only become more prevalent in the future, but some things should be left out of the group. For example, the QX80 is built with a Dynamic Digital Suspension system, but imagine what would happen when the technology fails plus the cost of repairs or a possible replacement. We encourage you to spend smarter and go with the practical and reliable build of Ford vehicles like the new Expedition Platinum instead.

Safety & Features

The previous 2024 Ford Expedition offered a great array of advanced safety and driver-assist features, and we expect the same level of care (if not more) in the new 2025 Expedition Platinum. One of the many things we love about Ford is how the brand will improve features that are already fairly useful in a way that caters to the specific needs of their drivers. For example, the Expedition supports Blind Spot Information with Cross-Traffic Alert but with the help of Trailer Coverage for those who use their Ford to haul their gear around. With the Expedition, you can also experience Ford BlueCruise hands-free driving technology which brings you the benefits of autonomous driving where it’s supported.

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about the way Infiniti introduces its technology is how roundabout they are when naming its features. For instance, “3D Around View Monitor with Spin Capability and Moving Object Detection” is quite a mouthful to say, and it’s just a fancy way to phrase the modern 360-degree camera that many vehicles have today. Meanwhile, other features just don’t seem useful at all like the Invisible Hood View which shows you your front wheels without the hood being in the way. We find it difficult to determine when this feature would be useful when you can see right outside your windshield just fine. At this point, it’s just a matter of navigating around gimmicks you don’t really need.

Interior

Going with the upgraded Expedition Platinum model will get you a beautiful cabin space that offers a satisfying balance between comfort and convenience. The plush leather seating makes longer trips that much easier, relieving you of soreness and aches until you make it to your next rest stop. The rotary-dial shifter is there for easy control and to free up space in the center console area. If you’re tired of yelling through road noise, the Expedition Platinum is made with enhanced sound insulation to curate peaceful drives even on bumpy or busy roads. Sitting in the driver’s seat is like having a command center at your fingertips with a panoramic display along the dash and a 13-inch portliest-oriented infotainment screen just ahead of it for a complete tech setup.

Much of what the Infiniti QX80 offers is purely materialistic with fewer features that improve the quality of the drive. There are 4 different seat colors to choose from, ambient lighting comes in 64 hues, and there’s an available head-up display. People don’t talk much about HUDs anymore, probably because drivers have realized that seeing your information on an actual screen provides greater visibility. When it comes to tangible screen real estate, the Expedition Platinum passes with flying colors.

Bottom Line

The new 2025 Ford Expedition Platinum gives you what you pay for while staying practical and reasonable. You’ll feel better knowing that every cent has gone to something that you’ll actually use and enjoy. Meanwhile, those who go with the QX80 may feel like their money has gone into features that they’ll never use.
